General Information on Ferries to Giglio from Porto Santo Stefano
During the summer season, ferries operate on the Porto Santo Stefano – Giglio Island route from 07:30 to 19:00, with the final ferry of the day departing from Giglio Porto. While these connections are available throughout the year, the schedules may differ slightly. So, we always recommend double-checking the latest timetable on our website.
Getting to Porto Santo Stefano
The first thing you need to know is how to get to Porto Santo Stefano. Here are some quick tips, whether you’re arriving by car or bus.
If you’re driving from the north, you’ll need to take the Grosseto bypass and then continue on the Via Aurelia towards Rome. After about 34 km, exit at Albinia and then follow the signs to Porto Santo Stefano.
For those traveling from the south, take the A12 Roma-Fiumicino highway towards Civitavecchia. From there, continue on the SS1 Aurelia up to Orbetello, and from there, follow the signs to Porto Santo Stefano.
If you’re traveling by bus from Orbetello or Grosseto, get off at the first stop as you enter Porto Santo Stefano, right in front of the shipyards, just a few steps from the ticket offices and the boarding area.
The journey from Orbetello – Monte Argentario to Porto Santo Stefano takes about 14 minutes, and the ticket is priced at €2.60 for a one-way trip. Tickets can be purchased at the Station Bar or online via the Autolinee Toscane website.
Managing Your Vehicle
Upon arrival at Porto Santo Stefano, you have two options:
- Not to board your car.
- Board your vehicle to Giglio Island.
If you opt to leave your car, you can park in one of the long-stay, paid parking areas near the boarding zone. The daily rate averages around €10, and these parking areas are typically open from 7 a.m. until 8-9 p.m. (but do check in advance).

If you opt for the latter, we recommend you read all the information about:
- boarding procedures for Giglio and Giannutri Islands (right at the entrance to Porto Santo Stefano at Porto del Valle, easily visible from the road), with helpful tips for those bringing pets or diving equipment;
- the self-certification process for vehicle disembarkation, a requirement during the month of August by the Giglio Island municipality.
Ticket Offices for Porto Santo Stefano – Giglio Island Ferries
Our ticket counters are conveniently located a short distance from the ferry boarding area, at Piazzale Facchinetti 6/7. However, during peak tourist seasons, it might be a challenge to find available spots.
For this reason, we highly recommend making your reservation online, directly on the Maregiglio website. This allows you to select your preferred day and departure/return times at your leisure.
Ferries Covering the Porto Santo Stefano – Giglio Island Route
On the picturesque journey from Porto Santo Stefano to Giglio Island, you’ll be sailing on one of our two robust ro-pax ferries:
- the M/N Isola del Giglio, a vessel spacious enough for 595 passengers and 40 vehicles;
- the M/N Dianium, which can comfortably ferry up to 345 passengers and approximately a dozen vehicles.
A round-trip ticket for passengers will cost you anywhere between €25 and €29. As for vehicles under 4.5 meters, the price hovers around €40 to €47 each way.
This scenic route is a mere 18 kilometers and takes about an hour of cruising. It’s a splendid opportunity to unwind and soak up the beauty of our Tuscan Archipelago.

Arriving at Giglio Porto with Porto Santo Stefano – Giglio Island Ferries
Our ferries dock at Giglio Porto, the island’s only commercial and tourist port. During summer months, you’re welcome to bring your car along. However, keep in mind that during the peak season in August, vehicle transport is restricted to those planning a stay of at least four nights.
In such cases, be sure to fill out and download the vehicle self-certification from our website or Giglio Island Municipality’s website, and have it handy for the local authorities when boarding or disembarking.
For foot travelers, Giglio Porto offers scooter rentals or bus rides to Giglio Castello and Giglio Campese. The bus stop is conveniently located in Piazza Giuseppe Rum, just a short 100-meter stroll from the ferry along Via Provinciale.
Bus tickets, priced at €2 per trip, can be purchased right at the stop.
Before you reach the bus stop on Via Provinciale, you’ll find the Proloco information office, a handy resource for discovering intriguing sites and exciting activities on the island.
